EU Interchange Fee Regulations
On 19 May 2015, the Regulation on interchange fees for card-based payment transactions ((EU) 2015/751) (“MIF Regulation”) was published in the Official Journal of the EU.
JCB is committed to the adoption of the MIF Regulation for the benefit of its clients and JCB cardmembers.
In force of Article 11 of the MIF Regulation, JCB International Co., Ltd clarifies the following for the avoidance of doubt.
Nothing in its license agreement for acquiring business and/or issuing partners or the JCB Regulatory Publications prevents JCB merchants from:
-Steering customers to the use of a payment card preferred by the merchant;
-Treating certain payment cards more or less favourably than others;
-Informing customers about fees and merchant service charges;
-Surcharging. Please be aware that local laws in each European country may specifically allow you or prohibit you to surcharge
